Each year Brown Sugar and Sugar Cubed recognises the amazing achievements of its Trainees with an awards event. And each year they are blown away by the emerging talent, making their way through the Sugar Culture ranks.
It’s no surprise that we have such a strong and expert team of stylists. Congrats to all the winners at the Sugar Culture Trainee Awards, which took place March 30th at the Radisson Hotel, Golden Lane.

We are so delighted here at Brown Sugar to welcome back John Cheese to the Sugar Culture Team. The former Blackrock Manager is back on South William Street and we, and clients alike, are thrilled with the news of his return to the salon.
John Cheese is a talented and accomplished stylist, with his career in both London and Dublin garnering him huge attention since it began in 2003. Within the industry, he has had great success, being hand picked by Sasha Mascolo Tarbuck to be a member of the first ever Toni and Guy Breakthrough Team and winning several awards, such as the L’Oreal Talentspotting UK Award and the Toni and Guy/L’Oreal Hair Idol Competition in 2008.
Having worked with designers like Vivienne Westwood, Matthew Williamson and Gareth Pugh through 3 seasons of London Fashion Week and an Edinburgh Fashion Festival, John’s fashion credentials are unquestionable. He has also styled for a wide range of magazines, from Company magazine in the UK to his 5 Irish Tatler covers in Ireland. Add to that his television work and there is no doubt that he is a seasoned professional, who has trained countless young stylists along the way.
He’s available for appointments now just ring the salon!
Brown Sugar’s Dearbhla and Elayne were nominated in the Image Magazine Beauty Awards for Best Beauty Practitioners – Best Makeup Artists and Best Hair Dresser. We are super proud of them both and they looked amazing at the event in Dublin’s Mansion House today.
Huge congratulations to Elayne who snapped up the hotly contested Best Hair Dresser Award! And Dearbhla you’re the Best Makeup Artist in our eyes. Dearbhla is the only makeup artist to be nominated in both the Image Magazine and U Magazine Beauty Awards, which is a huge achievement. So get to voting for her, Laura Reid, Rachel Mooney and Brown Sugar in the upcoming U Magazine awards right here.
Brown Sugar was the only salon nominated in two categories, which just shows the amazingly talented team we have in both Blackrock and South William Street.
Here are some snaps from the Image event! #sugarculture
So many great things happening in salons this week, #sugarculture is spreading! We had Beyonce’s stylist Neal Ferinah pop into Sugar Cubed and also into Brown Sugar on South William Street. He was grabbing colour and advice from Brown Sugar’s Head Colourist Peter O’Donnell ahead of tonight’s show in the O2! He rang ahead as he wanted to pick up the best toner to combat Queen Bey’s light ends. Peter recommended L’Oreal Chromative.
Neal was also in Sugar Cubed along with Beyonce’s nanny yesterday chatting to Amanda, she was happy to help!
Next up is Brown Sugar client and friend Conor McGreggor, who featured on the front page of the Irish Times today talking about his style and his favourite Dublin hair salon ahead of his RTE documentary tomorrow.
Lastly, our Makeup Artist Jennifer Doyle is tying the knot this week and we couldn’t be happier for her! Congrats Jennifer!
It’s no surprise really that we’ve chosen to pay homage to Queen Bey this week, she wowed in the O2 and had Twitter alive with Beyonce sightings. She really is a force to be reckoned with. Here we choose some of our favourite shots.
